My name is Marti, and I am an American expat living in the central highlands of Mexico. I have been reading voraciously since I was a preteen. Back then, I read not only ‘age appropriate’ books, but books for adults. I will never forget my first adult book: Hetty Green, the Witch of Wall Street. Boy, was I disappointed to learn it wasn’t about a witch at all. Then I discovered Bret Harte and his goldrush stories, then Zane Grey. I guess since then I have read thousands of books of all genres and quality, finally settling on non-fiction, and primarily the fiction genres of mystery, thrillers, paranormal, some fantasy of the non-unicorn variety, and sci fi.
I decided to start this blog as a place to talk about the books I have read, and am now reading, because my notes over the years have dispersed into scraps of paper, various notebooks, Facebook posts, and articles written in now-defunct sites. I wanted to try to keep it all in one place.
My reading slowed down considerably when I moved to Mexico, due to the lack of books in English and my slow pace reading in Spanish. But since the emergence of the Kindle, I have come back with a vengeance, and now read almost a book a day. I discovered the free lists, and the various books elsewhere available in .pdf, not to mention sites like Project Gutenburg, Manybooks.net, among others. I now have almost 800 books to be read on my Kindle….. all free!
So many books, so little lifetime.

Truly great thinkers, great philosophers, or great prophets are seldom accepted in their own country.
